Jason McMahon talks to Jeff Dodds, COO of Virgin Media

Here I speak to Jeff Dodds COO of Virgin Media (VM) who contacted me following a previous post to highlight I was selling my rugby memorabilia to help make Support in Mind sustainable as a business. Jeff kindly follows up on his pledge to support an independent (me) and Scope the chosen charity of VM, with also a focus in mental health. After a couple of emails & discussions on an opportunity I proposed to say a few words to staff in some format to raise awareness & recognise signs of those struggling in silence, or even recognise themselves as struggling - Jeff asked if I would join him on his podcast that goes out internally within VM. Here I was talking to the COO of Virgin Media, totally inspired & motivated by such a senior business leader with so much empathy & listening non-judgementally to my story and how by sharing could help his employees own wellbeing - and importantly to reach out in times of need. There is hope in every situation.

1 in 4 with Abby Lacey & Friends - Jason McMahon

I’m Abby Lacey and I am an advocate of speaking out and breaking the stigma attached to mental health.  In this episode of 1 in 4, I talk to Jason McMahon. After 20 years of being a successful businessman, Jason’s life changed - following redundancy, divorce and the sudden death of his mother, Jason’s mental health spiralled downwards.  After seeking help, and through experiences working for a local homeless charity, Jason founded Support in Mind where he inspires employers to be more educated & employees to reach out for support at times of need through personal talks, mental health awareness training as a professional training provider and community outreach in a voluntary capacity.

The Grassroots Football Coach

On this special episode of The Grassroots Football Coach, Berks & Bucks FA County Coach Developer, Mark Rivers attends a 'Talking Tactics' event, to meet Jason McMahon, a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and Mental Health Ambassador for Berkshire Rugby.  Having suffered with deep depression himself and feeling very alone with no purpose, Jason reflects on how he not only found the inspiration to talk, but also on how a Goldfish called 'Wilson' saved his life.  Jason also discusses how he now uses his own life experiences to help players, members, coaches, parents and officials struggling with mental health to reach out for support.
